Here’s what’s happening in the shop.

One of my goals with this website is to provide some education. On this page, I hope to show some of the interesting work that I’ve been doing, so that my visitors can see some different problems, solutions, and final outcomes on the instruments that come through my shop.

I’ll be changing the page format a bit to allow me to use this page as an “index” page, that will allow my visitors to link to other instrument “project pages”.

Check here on a regular basis to see more projects as I’m working on them, or finish them.

Thanks for visiting,

Doug Wall

ITEMS FOR LUTHIERS

BOW HEAD SPLINE MATERIAL- This is a canvas reinforced Micarta sheet that I’ve been experimenting with for bow head splines. It’s about 0.028” thick, and is very strong! I sand both sides of the material to get rid of surface contaminants and provide a better surface for the epoxy glue. The real advantages of this material are the strength, lack of “grain”, and the fact that the edge finishes to a close match to the color of Pernambuco. If you’d like to experiment with some of this material, you can get a 3” x 6” sheet of it for $3.00 (US) plus a stamped, self addressed envelope.

BOW BAGS - A perfect opportunity for the small shop. 2” wide by 34” long, 1.5 mil clear poly bow bags. Also called “protective sleeves”. I’m offering these as a trial service. I have several hundred in stock. The bunches of 10 bags are stapled together at the sealed end and a small hole is punched through the end. Perfect for hanging the bunch on a small nail next to your bench. You  could also take out the staples, and load a few bunches into a small, cube shaped tissue dispenser.

Prices: One bunch of 10 for $3.00, 50 (five bunches of 10) for $14.00. 8% NYS sales tax applies to NY sales. I’ll be determining shipping costs over the next few days, and will post them when I’ve figured them out. Cash of check only.

Contact me to if you’re interested in purchasing these.

SIMPLE, PROTOTYPE RIB BENDER – Here’s a prototype, heated rib bending iron that I made up. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Here’s a bow that I’m working on. It’s stamped Mathias Thoma, Germany. It came in with a broken head, and a destroyed frog. I’ve repaired the head, and will be replacing the frog with a close duplicate.
